Describe a space that influenced your career in landscape architecture, which can help others relate to the profession.
Submit a short essay and a quick napkin sketch and you could win a $2,000 grant to fund your participation in the 2018 ASLA Annual Meeting in Philadelphia. 21 grants will be awarded.
How to Enter:
1. Submit your answer in 500 words or less
Share your thoughts in a written narrative, suitable for public display. Our judges will be looking for strong, well-communicated essays that help elevate Landscape Architecture as a discipline that catalyzes positive change.
2. Draw a quick "napkin sketch"
Your original hand-drawn sketch should utilize a napkin no larger than 6"x6". Submit a picture of your drawing on the napkin, saved as a .jpg file no larger than 1MB.
3. Provide a short summary
Describe your idea in 140 characters or less.
You must be an Associate ASLA member or Full ASLA member who has earned a degree or advanced degree in landscape architecture during or after January 1, 2008. You also must be a U.S. citizen or in the U.S. in Lawful Status as defined by 6 C.F.R. 37.3 (including any U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, and those in valid nonimmigrant status) in any of the 50 U.S. states or D.C.

Submissions will be accepted between April 13, 2018 and May 14, 2018. Winners will be notified in June. Grants will be awarded in split payments prior to, and following the event (see details below).
Our panel of three practicing Landscape Architects will select the 21 best responses. Judging will be based on written essay (30%), napkin sketch (30%), and overall presentation of all entry materials (40%). Learn more about the judging criteria on our FAQ page.

2018 ASLA Annual Meeting
October 19-22, 2018
At Anova, we believe in the power of Landscape Architecture to help solve some of the most significant challenges facing our society, such as stabilizing our climate and increasing mutual understanding across diverse members of society.
Anova created this grant program to help accelerate individuals’ careers in Landscape Architecture. We believe that education and sharing ideas drives personal growth, and the ASLA Annual Meeting provides an exceptional opportunity for engagement, learning and networking.
Along with the grant, all winners will be publicly recognized on the Anova website and at the 2018 ASLA Meeting in Philadelphia. The award winner determined to have the single best answer will receive first-place recognition.
Payment of the $2,000 grants will be split as follows: to help cover attendance costs, each individual winner will be awarded $1,000 in June. The remaining $1,000 of the grant will be awarded when Anova receives an email from recipients displaying proof of attendance in at least three classes, field sessions, workshops or general sessions during the meeting. Winners must provide such proof of attendance by no later than December 31, 2018.
